Sebastian Stan to Star in Radu Jude’s ‘Frankenstein in Romania’ Horror Drama

Romanian director Radu Jude has announced his next project will be a unique take on Mary Shelley’s classic, starring MCU actor Sebastian Stan in dual roles as both Dr. Frankenstein and his monster.

A Modern Twist on a Classic Tale

Hot on the heels of his Locarno Film Festival premiere of “Dracula,” acclaimed filmmaker Radu Jude (“Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn,” “Kontinental ’25”) has revealed his next ambitious project – a contemporary reimagining of “Frankenstein” set in Romania.

The film, titled “Frankenstein in Romania,” will feature Romanian-born actor Sebastian Stan in the challenging dual role of both Victor Frankenstein and his infamous creation. Stan, known for his work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and critically acclaimed films like “A Different Man,” brings his versatility to this unique interpretation.

CIA Secrets Meet Gothic Horror

The project promises to blend fact and fiction by incorporating the real-world history of secret CIA prisons in Romania with the legendary Frankenstein narrative. This contemporary approach adds a political edge to the classic horror tale.

Jude’s Busy Schedule

  • World premiere of “Dracula” at Locarno Film Festival
  • Silver Bear winner at Berlin Film Festival for “Kontinental ’25”
  • Upcoming immigration drama inspired by “The Diary of a Chambermaid”

The announcement comes as another high-profile Frankenstein adaptation, directed by Guillermo del Toro and starring Jacob Elordi, heads to the Venice Film Festival.
