Alison Brie Shares Thoughts on Scream Franchise, Hints at Possible Return
Scream 4 actress Alison Brie recently shared her candid thoughts about the evolution of the iconic horror franchise, while discussing the possibility of returning for Scream 7.
Potential Return to the Franchise
During an appearance on the Shut Up Evan Podcast alongside husband Dave Franco to promote their horror film Together, Brie addressed her role as Rebecca Walters, Sidney Prescott’s assistant in the 2011 installment. This film holds particular significance as it was the last Scream movie directed by horror maestro Wes Craven before his passing in 2015.
New Rules, New Possibilities
Franco sparked speculation about Brie’s potential return, noting, “I feel like with new Scream rules, even though she dies brutally, we could bring her back.” Brie playfully responded, “Yeah, where’s my role in Scream 7?”
Precedent for Character Returns
The franchise has previously brought back deceased characters through hallucination sequences, including:
- Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis in Scream (2022)
- Matthew Lillard’s Stu Macher (returning for Scream 7)
- David Arquette’s Dewey Riley (returning for Scream 7)
- Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger (returning for Scream 7)
Brie’s Critique of Recent Films
The GLOW actress expressed concern about the current direction of the franchise, stating that “too many people live.” She suggested that “the core four needs to die” and advocated for reducing the original cast to maintain the series’ tension.
Looking Ahead to Scream 7
The upcoming installment, directed by original writer Kevin Williamson, will feature the return of Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, after her absence from Scream VI. Fans can expect to see this new chapter in theaters on February 27, 2026.
